Ok, you'll all think I'm barmy now, but anyway.....

I recently visited my parents, and whilst looking for a fork one day,
came across what I'm guessing is a salad/desert fork which I used to use
as a kid to eat Maggi 2 minute noodles.

Mum had a look, and told me it was part of an engagement present (late
1960's). She had a look, and found that it was the only such fork left
from the set - the rest (as with most of the larger forks/spoons/knives
etc) have long since disappeared.

I owe mum money... that she'll refuse to accept...

So, I was thinking, maybe I could try find another set of this
cutlery...?

This is a picture of the fork, which she gave me.

Loading Image...

It is 14cm in length.

On the back it says:

Stainless Steel Japan (T) Rio

Researching that info, I found there is a "Rio Oneida Flatware" brand of
cutlery... though not surprisingly nothing that matches that design
from the current range.

I'm wondering if anyone has any clues/suggestions that might help me
source a new (as in, either original, or a remake if there is such a
thing) set that I could give my mother.

Thanks

May be wrong, but with the longer tines and the size, the pic looks like
a fish fork to me. I don't fancy your chances of finding anything new
that matches. Best bet may be second hand or collectible shops.

Keep an eye on Ebay. Mind you the way folks are bitchin and bailing
over to Oztion - then Oztion might be a better bet ;-)

This is of little help to you - except to say that I have seen cutlery
like that before, so in all probability it wasn't rare (in its day).
So your mission isn't a complete lost cause... but you will obviously
need some luck on your side, especially to find a complete set.

As mentioned, keep an eye on eBay, possibly even Salvos stores and the
like, with the latter you may find enough individual cutlery to piece
together a reasonable amount. Good luck!

I can tell you that it is an 'Oneida brand, and the pattern is called
'Stardust'.....As for being,as you say, only 14.5cm long...Are you sure of
that measurement?...

I have a set of 'Stardust' Silver Plated cutlery...My late wife had a set in
her 'Glory Box' minus the main size forks...I have the 'Entree' forks for
the set, and I have just measured it at 17.5cm long.... The actual 'Prongs'
of the fork are equal in length to the solid silvered part beneath the
prongs, leading to the actual start of the handle part of the fork)..

They also (I think) produced them in unsilvered 'Stainless Steel' as well...

It is definitely NOT a fish fork>

'Oneida' was bought out by another company (I forget the name) but they
still sell cutlery using the 'Brand Name'

On re-thinking...I believe that it must be 17.5cm in length and be the 'Main
Fork' of the set..You will notice that the prongs are much longer on your
fork than mine..Also that particular pattern was a small size (in length)

Hi Bigbazza, and thanks for the reply.

I re-checked. Fork measures 14.4cm long, 4.2cm on the inside length of
the fork prongs.

I googled Oneida Stardust... couldn't find anything matching... there
was something kinda similar... Stardust design by Gorham...

http://www.asyoulikeitsilvershop.com/pattern.php?sortby=pattern&letter=%3
D'S'

But it has different markings.

I have however emailed Oneida via their website to ask if they can
confirm and offer suggestions for me.

Thanks!

Forks, Teaspoons, Main Knife and Desert Spoons...as I said before, I do not
have the Main Size Forks....All Original 'Oneida'...

Here's a bit of Fork Trivia for you.
The prongs on forks are officially called "tines".
