I don't have a recipe, but my mum might have one in her Margaret Fulton
cookbook. If you don't get an answer before I visit her again, I'll have a
look. As for the tins, they do come up on ebay occasionally. Look under
Collectables:Home & Kitchen:Bakeware as well as Kitchen, Dining & Bar >
Cookware, Ovenware.

Thanks Liz. I had a look at my MF book and it has a recipe for Nut loaf and
I can use that to add a few dates to make it up. Good idea of yours.

Date Loaf

1 tablespoon butter
1 cup boiling water
1 cup dates (very roughly chopped)
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon bicarb of soda
2 cups plain flour

Method

Place dates, butter and sugar in bowl and pour the cup of boiling water over
the mixture. Allow to stand for a few minutes. Then add flour and bicarb and
mix thoroughly (but don't overmix or it turns to rubber)

*** I'd normally mix in a handful of roughly chopped walnuts at this
point***

Put into greased tins and cook for 3/4 hour in a moderate oven. When cool
slice and spread with butter.

The tins that I have are made by Willow. I saw them (or ones that were
similar, I didn't look that closely!) for sale yesterday in The General
Trader - http://www.thegeneraltrader.com.au/ However that's not much use if
you're not in Vic or SA. You might also try somewhere like KMart.

Thanks for that too. Will get a friend who lives in Victoria to get me a
couple more.
