Who like 'Kangaroo' Meat here...I have tried it now a few times and I find
after I cook it I don't really want to eat it....I do not 'overcook' it
either..

Today I tried to see again after weakening at Woolworths Supermarket..I
tries a mini roast that was marinated in herbs and spices..I followed the
cooking details to cook it...20' @ 190oC (the container covered in
foil)..Then removing the foil and putting it back into the oven for 10 mins
(This part I left for approx 14-14 mins, then I took out and covered it
again in foil for 15 Hr.. When I removed it from the foil, I started to
slice it and found it to be completely raw still as I passed the 2nd thin
slice...As the oven was then turned off, I put it into a 650 watt Microwave
for 2 mins and left it for a couple more before looking at it..It was still
quite raw, so I gave it another 2 mins (which was a total of 4 mins
microwaving)

As I sliced it, it had a terrible smell to it (very strong, not bad though)
I ended up eating it, but I did not like it at all, and have finally said to
myself,...This is it !!..No more.. Yucky...:-)

Roo is best eaten medium rare. It's got bugger all fat, so is *very*
good.
The smell was most probably the 'gamey' smell.

Try the Kanga Bangers. They are quite good.

I like roo steaks.

The very 1st time I tried Kangaroo (marinated) Steak, Peter, I liked it and
it was very tender. It certainly did not have the same taste as later one's
I tried...

When I said it was 'raw' I meant it was actually 'Raw..After I cooked it in
the microwave though, it was what one would call, medium rare... But I found
it quite disgusting a taste (and texture as well !)

I haven't the stomach to try it again. I hadn't tried the sausages, but have
seen them in 'Woollies' though...

Microwaving meat makes it sweat meat juice - that's never a good smell. It
also makes it tough. You'd have been better off turning your oven back on
(and getting it fixed for that matter, if that amount of time at 190
degrees leaves things raw), or better still searing it in a pan.

The best way to cook roo is like a rare steak, well-seared on the outside
and very pink inside. If you still don't like it after that, then you
probably just don't like roo.

Yes, all of what you say is about the way it is, Why would you want to eat
roo meat ? despite a lot of promotion over the years the fact remains it is
still very average, best left for Jap tourists and other visitors,, leave
the proper meat ,Beef , Lamb and Pork for us.

Roo can be very good , its cheap (usually free in our house) and makes

good dog food witj little preparation , it is however fine for human

consimption with a simple cooking like pot roast .

Some people don't like oysters either, so what's your point?

My point is that roo meat is basically rubbish for human consumption, sure I
know it is fit for humans to eat , but if there was a choice of better
quality meat,eg. beef, lamb , pork, even venison, why would you bother, if
you were starving and that was all there was then sure eat it , but as a
culinary Choice it is at best 3rd grade.

I like roo, and I think you made a few mistakes here...

1. Don't buy meat at supermarkets.

2. Fix your oven.

3. Don't nuke the roo; would you nuke a steak?

I'd recommend buying roo from a Real Butcher, marinating it in oil, garlic,
pepper, and any other strong-tasting herbs you like, then roasting in a very
hot oven or cooking on a very hot grill (depending on cut). Let it rest,
wrapped, for a good 10 mins. Then eat it rare.
