Good places to find Mexican ingrediants in Perth?
(too old to reply)

Can anyone suggest places in perth to find any of the following (all of
which are mentioned in my new Mexican cookbook and several of which are
used in recipes I want to have a go at making):

Masa Harina (or the ingredients to make it myself). Or failing that, decent
Corn Tortillas (how suitable for authentic recipes are the Old El Paso ones?)
Tomatillos
Plantains
Fresh chiles labeled something other than "green" or "red" (as in, how can
I tell what sort of chile I am buying so I can get something close to what
the recipes in my book call for)
Whole dried chiles (not chile powder or chile flakes)
Achiote
Coriander seeds/roots
Tequila

Prefer somewhere close to East Fremantle but anywhere that is likely to
have this kind of stuff is good :)
Places that have "unusual" ingredients in general would also be nice to
know about.

On the west coast of South America - the Andes runs though it. If
you're looking for "whole dried chillis", you can get them in packets
from places like growers' markets that have a dried herb stand thingy,
or from any "Asian" grocer. You should even be able to get them in
packets in a decent supermarket

Coriander seeds/roots
Ditto for the seeds. "Hoyt's" brand of herbs and spices does chillis
and coriander seeds.

For the roots, I guess you'd just use the roots off a bunch of
coriander (which you'd probably need for other recipes.)

Tequila
Duh! Try your bottle shop/pub/whatever.

I was able to find the dried chiles I wanted at a chinese food shop.
Was unable to track down any of the other stuff on the list (anyone know of
good places to try and find "unusual" fruits and vegetables (like
Plantains, Tomatillos, Nopales, Habaneros etc)?

Coles where?
I have been in several supermarkets lately (including coles and woolworths)
and haven't seen anything that looks like a habanero.

I haven't seen this, seein as to how I live down south now, but what about
going to the Freo Markets and asking the people who sell
muesli/flour/chickpeas etc if they could source some of the stuff. They
could almost call it health food?

If they will, and then do, post back to let us know.
