Hi All,

I want to mince my own garlic, I have an Oscar Vitalmax juicer and a
commercial grade mincer. I tried both and they mince the garlic
perfectly, so no problem there.

The big catch is peeling the darned garlic - too time consuming to do
dozens at a time... or perhaps I don't know the best way to do it.

Yes, I could compromise and buy bags of already peeled garlic, but that
is pricey and you have no assurance of freshness or quality.

Anyway, any nifty ideas out there to peel bulk garlic quickly... or at
least a lot quicker?

TIA

I know there's a small flat rubber piece, about the size of toast that you
rub the garlic in that can remove the peel. I don't see why wearing rubber
washing up gloves wouldn't do the same thing.. Just pop them on and rub the
clove in your hands. (????)

Are you talking about those rubber grip mats that you use for opening
jars? I was just thinking of those.

I'd heard of them being used, but never tried it myself.

I don't think rubber gloves would work better, as these grip mats are
more "sticky" than the gloves.

1000 pounds of garlic an hour FTW!

http://www.amazon.com/Zak-Designs-E-Z-Rol-Garlic-Peeler/dp/B00004RDDP I've
got one of these, and honestly it's almost quicker to cut the root and smash
the clove with the flat side of the knife, unless you need pristine whole
cloves.

If I saw one of these I'd be tempted though: http://www.tichkum.com/

Yoiks! I'll settle for something that can do 1KG per hour... well, maybe
1KG in 5 minutes at least.

Like many other kitchen gadgets... :\

Yeah, I'd want to see one in action first though (I can't get the demo
videos to play).

Cheers.

Cut the bottom tough bit off the whole heads of garlic and roughly break
it into cloves. Spread the cloves out on a board, cover with a tea towel
and smash to bits with a meat tenderiser. The peels fall off easily,
ready for mincing.

Seems like the 'ol smashing, be it tenderiser or flat side of knife
might still be the best simple way. Not that I've tried anything other
than a knife as yet :) Thanks.

Break into cloves. Put in microwave 15 seconds on high. Skins will slip
off.

I'll definitely try that idea, if the skins slip off then this method
sounds very good, thanks for the help Hoges.
