Those biddies from "How Filthy Are Poms' Houses" had a tip like this
in one ep. Unfortunately, I can't remember what it was. :P

This looks good:

"After making marmalade, there is a thick burnt residue on the bottom
of my saucepan. Bicarb and vinegar has not removed it.

SHANNON: Put some vinegar in the pan and stick it in the freezer. Let
the vinegar freeze then take the pan out and put it straight on the
stove and heat it up to just warm (not boiling) then sprinkle with
bicarb soda and scrub it again. It's the change of temperature that
loosens the muck."

Put in some dishwashing machine detergent and let it sit there - sometimes
it will take days. I've also used napisan and left that for days too.

Fill the pan with water and add lots of salt

1/2 cup or so and simmer for 30 minutes
let it sit over night and if it wont wipe off repeat , it should come
off easily in flakes .

In "Spotless" (S. Lush, p.16) it says:
" Sprinkle bicarb into pan, then sprinkle vinegar over it. this will
make it fizz. Scrub with a nylon brush while it's fizzing. You may
need to repeat this 2 or 3 times for bad burns"
